Nancy Hess

I am a relational therapist who works with couples to improve relationship and feel more connected.  I help clients understand trauma and how their unique history can impact both their internal experience (leading to anxiety, depression, using substances or behavior to numb themselves, and emotional regulation difficulties) and how they relate to other people (including challenging relational dynamics, trust issues, intimacy difficulties, and/or feeling disconnected).  By cultivating an understanding of the way your experiences impact you somatically, emotionally, and relationally, we will collaborate to determine how you can best be supported.

My work is informed by my education and training in somatic therapy, mindfulness, attachment theory, Brainspotting, polyvagal theory, integration therapy, feminist theory, and the couples work of Esther Perel and Terry Real (RLT).

I work particularly well with clients with non-traditional paths/orientations: creatives, entrepreneurs, artists, LGBTQ folx, people navigating poly relationships, and anyone who feels like they don’t (or choose not to) fit cultural expectations.  I enjoy helping people connect to their authentic selves to foster agency, growth, integrity, connection, and transformation.

I love this work and understand that the therapeutic relationship needs to have the right chemistry if it is to be helpful to you.  I strive to bring curiosity, presence, directness, honesty, and warmth to the process. I invite you to contact me for a free consultation to see if we are a good fit.
